Anti-Virus programs

Are anti-virus programs just highway robbery when AVG and other such sites offer components for free?  Or are those free sites garbage.  I had a trojan horse invade my computer with a FULLY updated McAfee.  So why bother?

Sounds like a good article for me to write.  The short answer for me personally is that I'm yet to be convinced that commercial anti-virus products are greatly superior to free alternatives such as AVG.

However, I have some specific issues with AVG lately.  You should see my blog post for further details.

I'll definitely put an anti-virus article at the top of my list though.  Thanks!

I don't know if This article helps, but hopefully it might give you and others pointers to help maximize the security on your system with the minimum of fuss.

AVG's newest security product provides real-time protection against online threats for free-forever. There are millions of poisoned web pages out there.

for me, it would seem that the bigger anti virus companies would have a lot more money to invest on squashing new internet threats quickly. Also I presume they would have a lot more money to invest in their 'virus rooms' and the 'hackers' that work in there to figure out new threats and fixes.

You would think, but bigger isn't necessarily better, just ask GM.  Apparently they run their business so poorly that they need a bail-out from the Federal government.

Big companies get it wrong all the time.  Microsoft are just about ready to erase Vista from the history books and pretend it never happened.

(welcome to the site btw Pyldrvr)
