Home » About About Darkbee.com First off, let me start by saying welcome to my small contribution to the World Wide Web. I'll give you a little background into what this site is all about.I am no-one in particular, just an every-day person who enjoys computing. I was motivated into creating this website as a way of sharing my Internet experience with others out there. My philosophy is simple, if I find something that I like and that I think other people might like then I will share it with them. This ranges from application software, to computer games and the occasional non computer related item (Yes, sometimes I do manage to tear myself away from the computer.) I want my site to be as appealing to as wide an audience as possible so although I consider myself an advanced computer user, I recognize that not everybody else is. With that in mind, I try not to get too technical or bogged down with boring details, but I am a, I suppose, what you might term a "geek". With that in mind I can't always guarantee that I do a good job. ![]() Either way, whether you are a geek, a beginner, a Windows, Mac or Linux user, or none of the above, I hope you find something of interest on this site. Please feel free to browse, and I welcome your comments and participation. Why Darkbee? Now you may be wondering, what the hell does "Darkbee" mean? Well, it all started a long time ago when I was introduced to the wonders of the Internet back in the early 1990s. Many of my friends were already using it, in particular using an little program called ICQ. It was one of the first instant messaging programs and is still popular today. Anyway, rather than use their real names, they took to using nicknames, a new concept to me at the time. In anticipation of getting on to the Internet and ICQ, I set about trying to come up with a unique but meaningful nickname. I had many ideas, which I can't even remember now, but I started to play around with my real name and thought maybe I could generate a username from my real name, sort of like an anagram. What I eventually ended up doing was taking letters from my real names (first, middle and last) in order to spell out the nickname "Darkbee". I'm not going to completely give the game away, but my real initials are D.K.B. And that is how "Darkbee" was born. It's a nickname that has stuck with me ever since and I pretty much use it all the time whenever I find a site that requires a username (with some exceptions). I think I'm correct in saying (and there's no way that I can actually verify this) that I was the original Darkbee, but I've noticed over the years that others have started to use it to! Today, there are Darkbees all over the world! |
