About Darkbee.comFirst off, let me welcome you to Darkbee's domain, my little corner of the World Wide Web. Here you'll find reviews on computer software, video games and even the occasional non-computer-related item... I do enjoy music and things to do with being green and helping the environment so you might find some stuff on those as well. Furthermore, if you feel so inclined leave your comments, or better yet sign up for free and join in!
This website came about over 10 years ago, when I wanted to get in on the personal web-presence action. Back then the Internet was information-rich but chaotic (not much has changed really). I thought to myself, it'd be great if I could share some of the things of interest that I've found on the Internet, and maybe help like-minded people on their travels on the Net. Darkbee.com was born and for much of its history, I'm sad to say sat mostly untouched. That changed in 2008 when I embraced the wonders of Content Management Systems, and I began adding content (ir)regularly.
It was always my goal to try to appeal to as wide an audience as possible by keeping my content simple i.e. not too tech heavy, and also by trying to cover a wider range of topics than just software and computer games. However, those are my first love so that is definitely where the majority of the content lies. Either way, I hope you find something of interest on this site be you a tech-geek, a computer novice, or just an information superhighway traveler passing through. Please feel free to browse, and I welcome your comments and participation.
Now you may be wondering, what the hell does "Darkbee" mean? Well, it all started a long time ago when I was introduced to the wonders of the Internet back in the early 1990s. Many of my friends were already using it, in particular using an little program called ICQ. It was one of the first instant messaging programs and is still popular today. Anyway, rather than use their real names, they took to using nicknames, a new concept to me at the time. In anticipation of getting on to the Internet and ICQ, I set about trying to come up with a unique but meaningful nickname. I had many ideas, which I can't even remember now, but I started to play around with my real name and thought maybe I could generate a username from my real name, sort of like an anagram.
What I eventually ended up doing was taking letters from my real names (first, middle and last) in order to spell out the nickname "Darkbee". I'm not going to completely give the game away, but my real initials are D.K.B. And that is how "Darkbee" was born.
It's a nickname that has stuck with me ever since and I pretty much use it all the time whenever I find a site that requires a username (with some exceptions). I think I'm correct in saying (and there's no way that I can actually verify this) that I was the original Darkbee, but I've noticed over the years that others have started to use it to! Today, there are Darkbees all over the world!
